Back to School with UBC-DIBS

It’s almost time for another school year! Although I’ve been on the other side of the classroom (at the lectern rather than in the seats) for a long time, I still get excited at the start of each new school year and the sense of possibility, the prospect of new acquaintances, and the chance at fresh starts. This year, I hope we can all share that feeling because there is so much to look forward to in the BIG Difference community over the next nine months! In my role as Research Director for UBC Decision Insights for Business & Society (UBC-DIBS), I’m eager to share some of what we have planned for the year ahead.

BC BIG In Their Element

We are a growing team of individuals with a shared passion for making a measurable difference for the citizens we serve. With some new faces on the team, we thought we would take the opportunity to share a snapshot of who we are! We recently asked the team to answer a few unconventional questions so that you could get to know the team beyond their title.

What Do You Mean, "There's NO Road"?!

Looking at a map of B.C., the route seemed straightforward with easy trips from Victoria to Powell River; Powell River to Kamloops; Kamloops to Princeton; Princeton back to Victoria. We were confident that the distances between each destination were easily achievable within a day.

Two days prior to our departure from Powell River, I decided to look at the route we would be taking heading east towards Kamloops. It was at this point that I made a couple of worrisome discoveries.

UBC-DIBS Case Studies: Certificate Student Capstone Projects

UBC’s Decision Insights for Business & Society (UBC-DIBS) is extremely proud to share snapshots of three capstone projects from the pilot cohort of the Advanced Professional Certificate in Behavioural Insights. These projects used Behavioural Insights to try to reduce illegal parking, increase hearing attendance, and encourage social workers to collaborate with families.
